Step 1: Getting Started
- Choose a Merit Badge you’d like to earn
- For Eagle-required Merit Badges, notify the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, or Advancement Coordinator of your intent
- Request a blue card before or after a troop meeting from either:
- Scoutmaster
- Assistant Scoutmaster
- Advancement Chair
- The troop leader will provide you with counselor contact information
Important: Merit Badge Counselor Contact
Do not contact Merit Badge Counselors directly. The Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, or Advancement Coordinator will make the initial contact for you.
Step 2: Working on the Merit Badge
- Download and use the Merit Badge workbook (no specific troop format required)
- Complete requirements as discussed with your counselor
- Keep track of all completed requirements
- Merit Badge work should be done outside of regular troop meetings
Step 3: Merit Badge Days and Workshops
- Check the Troop Member Dashboard under “Advancement & Merit Badges” section for upcoming Merit Badge Days
- Workshops are typically held quarterly
- Even for workshop-based Merit Badges, you still need a blue card
- Sign up for workshops through the dashboard
Step 4: Completing the Merit Badge
- Have your counselor sign your completed blue card
- Submit the signed blue card to the Advancement Chair (Locksley Moody) before or after a troop meeting
- Keep your portion of the blue card in a safe place – you’ll need it for Eagle rank
- The Merit Badge will be recorded in Scoutbook
- Merit Badges are awarded at various times throughout the year
Recordkeeping Tips
- Start an “Eagle Book” to store your blue cards
- Take a photo of completed blue cards for backup
- Keep track of your progress in your Scout Handbook
