About Our Troop
Scout Troops vary widely in size, activities, and programs, and when looking for a Troop to join, it’s important to make sure you have a “good fit” — that the Troop, its leaders, its activities, and overall “feel” are a good match. As Lord Baden-Powell said, “The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.”
Troop 1182 is a mid-size Troop and we believe that our size and numerous volunteers afford us a good deal of flexibility in setting our activities to best meet both the immediate and long-term needs of our Scouts.
Activities and Programs
We strive to maintain a balanced program of activities throughout the year to challenge the Scouts both mentally and physically, emphasizing leadership and character development in the Scouting tradition. The Troop participates in a wide range of activities and schedules at least one activity each month. Our activities include monthly campouts, skiing trips, ice skating, and hiking adventures.
Summer Camp Experience
One highlight of the Scouting experience is the annual trip to summer camp. Each summer, Scouts from Troop 1182 have the opportunity to attend either Goshen Scout Reservation or Camp Rodney. At these camps, our Scouts can complete many requirements for advancement and merit badges while enjoying numerous activities including swimming, climbing, shooting sports, and many other exciting programs.
Community Service and Values
Scouting is far more than camping, hiking, and games. Scouting is also about character, values, and community service. Troop 1182 emphasizes the values embodied in the Scout Law and our Scouts regularly participate in community service activities such as Highway Clean-up, supporting local Food Pantries, and collecting eyeglasses for donations.
Dues and Financial Information
Annual dues for Troop 1182 are $165. Additionally, nominal charges are made to defray the costs of food on campouts, entrance fees, campsite fees, etc. We firmly believe that no youth should be denied the Scouting experience for financial reasons. We offer opportunities for our Troop members to earn money through working at the Concession stand during Bingo Events at the Park West Lions Club.
Meetings and Communication
We meet every Wednesday from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Park West Lions Club, 8620 Sunnygate Dr, Manassas, VA 20109. The main form of communication for the troop is BAND, available on iPhone, Android devices, and computer web browsers. Once you have completed the Troop registration form, you’ll receive an invitation to join our BAND group and be added to our Google Group email distribution list. If you do not receive an invitation or have trouble accessing BAND, please contact Carla Harter.
